Tokushima Prefectural Johnouchi Secondary School
Thank you for visiting the Tokushima Prefectural Johnouchi Secondary School website.
Founded in 1980 as Tokushima Prefectural Johnouchi High School, we are proud to celebrate our 45th anniversary. Emblemized by the yamamomo (Japanese bayberry), the official tree of Tokushima Prefecture, we uphold our school motto: "Independence, Cooperation, and Progress." Guided by this principle, we promote a balanced education that nurtures intellectual, moral, and physical development, encouraging our students to excel in academics, sports, arts, and cultural activities.
In April 2004, we established Johnouchi Junior High School, marking the inception of Tokushima Prefecture’s first integrated junior and senior high school within the public school system. Since then, Jonouchi Junior and Senior High School has offered six years of seamless secondary education. In 2013, we were honored to be designated the sole “Academic Leading High School” in Tokushima Prefecture, reinforcing our commitment to developing globally competent individuals and advancing secondary education throughout the region.
In April 2020, we reorganized as Tokushima Prefectural Johnouchi Secondary School, becoming the first unified secondary school in the prefecture. By 2023, we completed our transition to a fully-fledged secondary school, marking a significant milestone in our educational journey.
At Johnouchi Secondary School, our six-year curriculum is structured into three two-year stages—foundation, enrichment, and advancement—tailored to meet the developmental needs of students at each phase. We place particular emphasis on English and STEM education, supported by a weekly schedule of 34 hours for the lower division and 35 hours for the upper division. Students gain early access to high school-level content in mathematics, English, science, and Japanese, complemented by advanced language learning support systems. These initiatives aim to cultivate each student’s unique strengths and abilities, fostering measurable academic achievement.
Beyond the classroom, we offer a wide range of educational activities, including residential training programs, Awa cultural studies, summer seminars (Ucchi-na Experience Camp), language training, golf instruction, and participation in national competitions. These diverse experiences foster the development of students’ humanity, global awareness, and creativity. Joint events and club activities across all grade levels further enhance collaboration and personal growth among students from various areas of Tokushima Prefecture.
Our core educational mission is to nurture individuals with high aspirations who can contribute to the peace and advancement of society. We are dedicated to preserving the proud traditions and culture established by Johnouchi Junior and Senior High School while actively adopting innovative educational approaches that meet the challenges of a new era. Through these efforts, we aim to cultivate the next generation of capable and responsible leaders.
We sincerely seek the continued understanding and support of parents, community members, and all stakeholders in education as we pursue these objectives.
